From Working Class To White Collar… And Back Again
Words like hard work, perseverance, and kindness weren’t just spoken in Mick Irvine’s family home, they were lived out daily by his parents. So it’s no wonder they have become the bedrock of his business (Amaze Building), and his entire life.
Following these guiding principles, Mick started working for a large supplier in the building industry where he quickly excelled and was promoted to management. His skills and efforts helped the company grow from $2M to $11M in revenue. But as Mick worked closely with hundreds of builders, he noticed a troubling pattern.
“They didn’t engage with clients,” he remembers. “They just wanted to get the plans done, quote the job, and start building.”
He recalls one project in particular that left a lasting impression, “I was called in to fix a problem caused by another builder who forgot to install disability access throughout the home needed by the wheelchair-bound client. I’ll never forget the frustration and heartbreak on the face of the client who had placed her trust in the builder who didn’t really care.”
